Description
At the center, a turret-style tower rises from the basin, detailed with individually sculpted stones and a fortress-like crown. Water flows from the castle’s upper edge in a clear stream you can adjust to be more or less in volume, into the mote below, creating a pleasing water sound which will vary with volume. This water sculpture would make a dramatic statement anywhere but could also be tucked into a quiet corner for great effect.
The bowl was given a ‘soft square’ to harmonize with the tower and the rim is edged with a matching stone-wall motif. This is an intensely scupted piece as each stone was individually carved into low relief and glaze- painted between, with the forming of the center piece to appear as it should on the outside while being able to carry water up to the spillway but not into the tower which hold the light. It is so detailed it is hard to believe that it is entirely formed and carved out of clay. Yet it is, and meticulously glaze-painted, all by Joyce. You’ll enjoy the craftmanship of this piece.
